[ If Nico checks his mailbox, he'll find a small package addressed to him that contains a purple knitted scarf. There's also a letter with tidy handwriting: ]
To Nico,
I saw this scarf on sale and thought you might have some use for it. The colour suits you too, in my opinion.
If you're not comfortable with accepting this gift, that is fine with me too. No hard feelings.
[ Lark's face is already starting to burn up too, and he's snacking himself a bit as if to say, "Get a grip on yourself, Lark!" It's no big deal. This is apparently just a factually true statement. ]
If it's not too much trouble for you, you can drop by my place? It's an apartment in Blossomcrown.
[ Nico pauses for a moment, trying to figure out a polite and non worrying way to say "ghosting around like a feral cat" and decides ultimately to just kinda skip the issue of where he's staying. It isn't as though any of the demigods from Camp are here to call him out on his stray tendencies. ]
[ Skylark, yesterday: "Huh, maybe the ritual is just that or something will happen later." Skylark, later that night:
He sure walked right into that one, alright. When he made the offering, he told himself to temper his expectations, and he'd be fine whether or not there was a response (despite also admitting it might feel worse to end up missing his mom more).
It went exactly like how he thought it might if it worked; he saw her again in his sleep. A picnic at the beach, with the sun shining above and the sea sparkling under its radiance. She looked exactly as she did before her health took a turn for the worse as if those months didn't happen.
(Like his past year and a half or so didn't happen, really. Not a scar in sight.)
So he should have known that, predictably, he'd wake up in the morning feeling worse than he did the night before. Also predictably, he spent an extra half hour in his room instead of being up to make breakfast like usual, because he couldn't help crying. He's gotten good at keeping his voice down at least, which is a small mercy he's grateful for since he'd feel worse (x2) if Nico heard him.
Inevitably though, Skylark has to leave his room to get to the bathroom and wash up to make himself look presentable. There's only so much his sleeve can do for that. He knows that Nico is probably awake (because gods know how much sleep he manages to catch), so he just has to pray he makes it there unnoticed so he won't have to explain himself. Surely if he's fast enough he can dodge even the guy who just showed up in the shadows of this apartment one day. ]
[ Nightmares are something Nico is intimately familiar with. The line between death and sleep is a thing one, sort of, and dreams seep into the realm of the dead - or at least, his powers can allow him some leeway through them, though nothing like the children of Gods with more specific powers. Being the son of one of the Big Three means a lot of his abilities are pretty much bullshit. Percy is another prime example there.
Demigods usually end up having a lot of nightmares, though. The lives they lead, the dangers they're forced to face just by virtue of their blood and the trouble it calls to them. Nico knows many people who have night terrors, and he knows what they look like.
He's perched in the window seat in the front room, Styx settled over his ankles, but Nico looks up when Skylark leaves his room. He'd been aimlessly staring out the window, so... ]
[ Immediately failed step 1, great job Skylark. Maybe if he just doesn't acknowledge how he looks right now he'll get away with it (this is just wishful thinking at this point, really). He tries to put on a smile, though...well, it's probably a somewhat lackluster attempt. ]
[ He's a worse cook, but...he means that Lark looks like he could maybe use a few days more sleep. Or...something. Nico isn't sure what he needs, exactly. ]

Where are you right now? And how's are you doing with the whole touching requirement?
[ How does he broach "hey I think I really need a handhold because I frankly feel like crap right now"... ]
no one look at me
I haven't.
Hi thereβ
Oh. This makes this a little less awkward then.
I think I need to hold hands but I'm not sure who to ask besides you?
[ ...Now that he's actually sent the message, this feels way more embarrassing than he thought it would.]

You're probably the person I'm closest to here.

No, it's fine, I can do it. Just...let me wash up first.

[ He can sous chef. And then they can talk? Maybe? Shit, how does he START this kind of talk, though? ]
